German design council honors Andago®

Yesterday, the German Design Council announced the winners of the first-ever German Innovation Award. Among them was the Andago in the category “Excellence in Business to Business.”

The German Innovation Award is bestowed upon products and solutions whose user-friendliness adds value and sets them apart from the competition. This honor is not limited to a particular sector as innovations that shape the future and improve lives can be found across industries.

“The Andago provides safe, intensive gait therapy at an improved therapist-to-patient ratio,” Hocoma CEO Dr. Gery Colombo said. “We are happy that its excellent performance has been recognized, despite being up against fierce competition. More than 650 products and solutions were submitted, around 60% of which belonging to the B2B category.”

The independent, interdisciplinary jury considered the most innovative, useful, and economical nominees. Other important criteria included social and ecological responsiblity, marketability, or the potential to create jobs.

About the Andago

Hocoma’s Andago is breaking new ground in gait therapy. The mobile system with body weight support senses patients’ movement intentions and actively follows. Rather than relying on multiple therapists to support and secure them, patients can walk independently and freely. The improved therapist-to-patient ratio combats rising health care costs as well as shortages of qualified personnel in rehabilitation.

About the German Design Council
